Pencuri Motor Tembak Satpam di Masjid Kampus IPB

Jakarta Pencurian kendaraan bermotor terjadi di Masjid Al-Hurriyah di Kampus IPB, Darmaga, Bogor. Pemembakan ini tejadi sesaat sebelum salat Jumat berlangsung.

"Kejadiannya sekitar pukul 11.55 WIB sebelum salat Jumat," kata Aiptu Sigit, petugas Polsek Darmaga, Bogor, kepada detikcom, Jumat (25/5/2012).

Sigit mengatakan, ada dua orang satpam yang terkena tembakan oleh pelaku pencurian ini. "Informasinya ada dua satpam yang terluka," katanya.

Informasi yang sama diungkapkan Monica melalui Info Anda detikcom. Menurutnya pencurian ini terjadi di parkiran Masjid Al-Hurriyah. Menurutnya ada dua orang yang tertembak dalam peristiwa itu. Korban yang tertembak satu orang satpam dan pengunjung masjid itu.

Konser Lady Gaga(L)?

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta melangkah mantap saat tampil di studio televisi itu. Matanya bernyala semangat.

Tubuhnya dibungkus gaun rancangan Channel. Stocking hitam. Sepatu bertumit tinggi. Di sebelahnya, ada seorang presenter ternama AS, Barbara Walters. Ini wawancara top ABC News untuk artis kondang.

Stefani alias Lady Gaga sedang melesat bak komet di jagad musik pop Amerika Serikat. Media tak henti menyorot ulahnya. Namanya tenar ke sekujur bumi. Sejak awal, dia bergulat menjadi selebritas, seperti diucapkannya dua tahun silam di acara televisi itu, “Saya memiliki mimpi ini, dan saya sangat ingin menjadi seorang bintang”.

Lahir pada 28 Maret 1986, perempuan yang tepi matanya selalu bercelak tebal itu, memang akhirnya berhasil menarik banyak pemuja. Setiap kali tampil, seluruh isi panggung seperti terhisap oleh sang Lady. Musiknya menghentak. Gaya pakaiannya super nyentrik. Liriknya menggoda, seperti "Bad Romance," yang kerap dinyanyikan bak mantra oleh pemujanya:

Kini, Lady Gaga melejit. Pada 2010, TIME mencatat namanya sebagai 100 orang paling berpengaruh di muka bumi. Dia sejajar Barack Obama, dan begawan Apple, Steve Jobs. Forbes bahkan mencatatnya sebagai selebritas top mengalahkan presenter kondang Oprah Winfrey.
Albumnya terjual laris, nyaris 23 juta kopi di seluruh dunia. Dia menyabet lima penghargaan Grammy Awards, dan 13 MTV Video Music Awards. Pemujanya juga menggila.

Di dunia maya, semisal Facebook, lebih dari 50 juta orang mengkuti akun Lady Gaga. Pelantun ‘Poker Face’ itu bahkan menembus rekor follower di situs microblogging Twitter. Ia tercatat sebagai akun pertama berpengikut 20 juta. Itu membuatnya pernah berangan-angan tentang sebuah “Negara Twitter”.

Daging mentah
Seperti berkejaran dengan popularitas, penyanyi berdarah Italia ini kerap tampil kontroversial.  Dia akrab dengan sensasi. Kostum panggungnya seperti sebuah pernyataan sikap: berontak dari kemapanan. Dia eksentrik, dan kadang vulgar.  Dia, misalkan, memakai busana berbahan daging mentah di acara MTV Video Music Awards 2010.

Tentu, busana “agak gila” itu diprotes organisasi penyayang binatang (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals /PETA). Pendiri PETA, Ingrid Newkirk menyebut, ulah Gaga sebagai bentuk ofensif bagi gerakan pencinta hewan.

Dia dikritik bukan hanya soal penampilan. Lirik lagunya kerap mengundang perkara. Sebut saja, lagu terbaru berjudul ‘Born This Way’.  Seperti dilansir dari laman BBC.co.uk, lagu itu disensor di Malaysia. Di sana, stasiun radio memutar lagu ‘Born This Way’ yang telah diedit. Alasannya, lagu itu berlirik dukungan terhadap seks sesama jenis.

Di Libanon, lagu ‘Born This Way’ juga dilarang penguasa setempat. Alasannya, menghina agama Kristen. Sebelumnya, lagu ‘Judas’ di album itu juga dicekal di radio-radio Libanon. Kelompok Katolik setempat menolak lagu itu mampir ke telinga umat.
Tak hanya di Libanon,  ‘Judas’ juga dilarang di China. Dia masuk daftar 100 lagu yang harus dihapus dari situs pengunduh musik di negeri panda itu. Pemerintah China menyatakan  peraturan itu dibuat agar budaya China tetap lestari.

Dari menolak lagu, protes juga menjalar ke konser. Di Korea Selatan, warga Kristen setempat menyerukan pembatalan konser Lady Gaga yang digelar di Olympic Stadium, Seoul, 27 April 2012. Kata mereka, penampilan Lady Gaga termasuk pornografi, dan menyuarakan homoseksualitas.

"Beberapa orang dapat menerima hal ini sebagai budaya lain, tapi dampaknya sangat besar melebihi seni dan merendahkan nilai agama. Bahkan orang dewasa tidak bisa melihat penampilan yang terlalu homoseksual dan porno," ujar Yoon Jung-hoon, seorang pendeta yang mengorganisir aksi 'Civilians Network Against the Lady Gaga Concert' seperti dilansir dari laman Reuters.

Kuatnya tekanan publik, membuat pemerintah Korea Selatan mencari jalan tengah: konser boleh jalan, tapi khusus bagi mereka yang di atas 18 tahun. Di Filipina, konser Lady Gaga juga ditolak. Rencananya, Gaga manggung di Manlia selama dua malam, 21 dan 22 Mei 2012, di SM Arena.  Tapi kelompok Katolik di Filipina, Biblemode Youth Philippines, sudah lebiih dulu pasang kuda-kuda.

Mereka menggelar doa bersama menolak kedatangan “Mother Monster”, julukan beken Lady Gaga. Sang artis, kata kelompok itu, adalah seniman absurd anti Kristus. "Lady Gaga memakai simbol dan lirik yang menghina Tuhan," kata Pastor Reyzel Cayanan, seperti dikutip ABS CBN Kamis, 17 Mei 2012. Yang bikin merah telinga kelompok ini, salah satunya adalah lagu 'Judas'. Liriknya dianggap menghina Kristus secara langsung.

Tapi belum terdengar kabar apakah konser Lady Gaga bakal batal di Manila. Promotor konser, Renen de Guia, tampaknya bergeming. Dia menolak tuduhan sengit kelompok agama. Kontroversi dalam seni, kata Renen, adalah hal biasa. "Lagipula yang mengkritik Lady Gaga bukanlah orang-orang yang akan menonton konsernya," ujarnya.

Gagal di Jakarta?
Lady Gaga sedianya akan tampil di Jakarta, pada 3 Juni 2012. Tapi acara itu berhadapan dengan reaksi yang sama dengan negara tetangga. Sekelompok warga di Jakarta menolaknya, terutama Front Pembela Islam (FPI). Ketua FPI DKI Jakarta Habib Salim Al-Athas menilai, kehadiran Lady Gaga akan merusak aqidah dan akhlak bangsa. Jika konser jadi digelar, ia mengancam membawa ribuan massa FPI dan umat Islam ke Bandara Soekarno Hatta memboikot kedatangan sang penyanyi.

“Kita harap anak-anak muda mengintrospeksi diri supaya tidak terpengaruh ajaran-ajaran setan yang merusak moral anak bangsa,” ujar lelaki yang kerap disapa Habib Selon ini.Meski tidak mengeluarkan fatwa, para ulama di Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) sepakat konser Lady Gaga haram. “Kesimpulan rapat,  keharaman Lady Gaga sudah terang benderang. Seperti haramnya babi atau minuman keras. Tidak perlu difatwakan, anak SMP juga tahu babi haram,” ujar Ketua MUI, Cholil Ridwan kepada VIVAnews.

Meski begitu,  Cholil mengingatkan bukan wewenang MUI menolak konser. Lembaganya hanya bertugas menyadarkan umat. “Kalau umatnya yang diingatkan nggak mau sadar, ya tanggung sendiri dosanya,” ujarnya.

Suara serupa juga muncul dari gereja. Sekretaris Eksekutif Konferensi Waligereja Indonesia (KWI) Romo Edy Purwanto mengungkapkan, bukan tugasnya menolak atau menyetujui konser Lady Gaga. Pihaknya melihat hal lain lebih esensial.

Sebelum menyatakan menolak atau membolehkan, kata Romo Edy, hendaknya masyarakat dibekali edukasi dan informasi. Juga pertimbangan bagi pemerintah. “Banyak hal, salah satunya menuntut mereka lebih bijaksana dan selektif memilih siapa yang konser di sini. Wilayah kami, adalah edukasi masyarakat dan umat,” ujarnya.

Ketua Umum NU, KH Said Aqil Siraj tak jauh-jauh dari sikap agamawan lain. "Kalau memang diindikasi akan merusak moral, sebaiknya tidak," ujar KH Said Aqil Siraj.

Berbagai masukan itu tampaknya membuat Polda Metro Jaya menerbitkan rekomendasi penolakan konser Lady Gaga. Selain pendapat MUI, polisi juga mempertimbangkan pendapat beberapa fraksi di DPR, bahwa konser Lady Gaga terlalu vulgar, dan tidak mendidik. Juga pandangan Lembaga Adat Besar Republik Indonesia, bahwa ulah Lady Gaga tidak sesuai adat ketimuran, dan tak cocok masuk ke Indonesia.

“Dengan demikian, konser Lady Gaga fixed dibatalkan, mengingat faktor sosial budaya yang berdampak pada faktor keamanan," kata Humas Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Rikwanto. Mabes Polri pun belum memberikan izin terhadap konser Lady Gaga.

Masih mungkin?
Tentu yang kelabakan adalah pengundang Lady Gaga ke Jakarta. Presiden Direktur PT Java Prima Kreasi, Michael Rusli, atau dikenal sebagai promotor Big Daddy, masih berharap konser penyanyi asal Amerika Serikat itu tak dibatalkan. Berapa kerugian dari pembatalan itu belum lagi dihitung.

Michael pantas agak risau. Soalnya, untuk persiapan konser, dia akan mendatangkan grass covering dari Jerman. Penutup rumput itu akan digelar di  Stadion Utama Gelora Bung Karno, agar rumput tak rusak saat pemuja sang Lady berjingkrak di konser yang direncanakan spektakuler itu. "Kami harus bicara, kerugian itu bukan hanya dari kami saja. Tapi dari kontrak, artis, manajemen, juga akan terkena kerugian," kata Michael, Selasa, 15 Mei 2012.

Dia mencontohkan, jika konser tak dapat izin, maka akan ada jalan penyelesaian tersendiri dari semua pihak itu. "Sekarang masih proses dan dialog, dengan sejumlah pihak. Mulai dari artis manajemen, promotor keamanan dan lainnya," ujarnya.

Soal persiapan konser Lady Gaga, Big Daddy sebetulnya sudah mengantongi surat izin dari Departemen Pariwisata. Izin itu, kata Michael, keluar beberapa pekan lalu. Dia juga tak menampik jika Lady Gaga artis kontroversial. Meski ditolak, toh sebanyak 44.000 tiket ludes terjual. “Kontroversi, itulah yang membuat Lady Gaga jadi terkenal,” katanya.

Soal dialog, kata Michael, juga termasuk perkara kostum Lady Gaga yang diributkan banyak pihak. Manajemen Gaga, kata Michael, telah menyatakan sang artis akan menyesuaikan dengan budaya di negara berlangsungnya konser.  “Mereka sudah tahu bahwa Indonesia akan lebih spesial untuk kostum. Pasti berbeda dengan kostum saat tampil di Eropa dan Asia,” ujar Michael, yang pernah sukses mementaskan Linkin Park, Roxette, dan Rod Stewart di Jakarta ini.

Pengamat musik Bens Leo menilai, polisi mestinya sudah mengantisipasi sejak awal dampak rencana konser Lady Gaga.  Pembatalan mendadak, ujar dia, justru akan mencemarkan nama baik Indonesia . “Sejak awal penjualan tiket, Polri seharusnya sudah menghentikan itu kalau mereka tidak memberikan izin,” ujar Bens Leo.

Dia menyarankan promotor dan kepolisian harus berembuk dan melakukan klarifikasi.  Mereka harus menjelaskan alasan konser Lady Gaga dibatalkan. “Dijelaskan juga sistem pengembalian tiket. Kalau ada jalan keluar dan konser tetap dijalankan, hendaknya panitia menjamin konser aman, dan pakaian tidak sesuai dengan video klip. Jangan digantung sampai mendekati 3 Juni,” ujarnya.

Agaknya ribut-ribut soal pentas Lady Gaga ini sampai juga ke telinga Menteri Koordinator Politik Hukum dan Keamanan, Djoko Suyanto. Soalnya, dua pekan terakhir, ada kesan polisi seakan lemah, dan mengabulkan begitu saja desakan sejumlah ormas membatalkan konser.
"Kejadiannya tidak seperti itu. Kemarin, bahkan hari ini saya berkomunikasi terus dengan Kapolri. Kepolisian masih mengevaluasi dan menganalisa semua pendapat di masyarakat," ujar Djoko Suyanto di NTB, Jumat 18 Mei 2012.

Evaluasi dan analisa itu, kata Djoko, menimbang soal keamanan, kenyamanan, dan kepuasan masyarakat. Tentu, kata Djoko, pertimbangan itu tetap melihat azas demokrasi, terutama kontroversi rencana konser Lady Gaga bertajuk 'The Born This Way Ball' itu. "Kita juga harus mengkompromikannya dengan pihak event organizer (EO) atau dengan manajemen artis yang didatangkan dari luar negeri," ujarnya.

Kompromi itu bisa beragam sisi. Misalnya, koreografi, tata panggung, dan penampilan Gaga disesuaikan. Juga soal lirik lagu-lagu yang akan dia nyanyikan. Semua aspek itu diminta disesuaikan kondisi dan budaya di Indonesia sehingga tidak memantik pro kontra. Apalagi persepsi bahwa negara ini tak punya toleransi bagi budaya luar.

Jadi, polisi masih berembuk dengan promotor konser, untuk mencari kata sepakat. "Harapannya, mereka yang pro dapat menikmati apa yang mereka harapkan sesuai kondisi Indonesia," ujar Djoko.
Mungkin itu kabar baik bagi pemuja Gaga.

Apa Implikasinya Jika FDR Sukhoi Tidak Ditemukan ?

Evakuasi korban Sukhoi sudah berakhir. Pasukan Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI) dan tim khusus yang dikirim dari Rusia sudah ditarik pulang.

Berakhirnya misi pencarian korban dan serpihan pesawat itu berlaku efektif 21 Mei 2012. Hari ke-12 sesudah pesawat itu menghantam tebing Gunung Salak Rabu 9 Mei 2012.

Hingga misi ini berakhir, Flight Data Recorder (FDR) tidak kunjung ditemukan. Setidaknya begitu penjelasan Tim SAR. Padahal tim sudah bekerja sangat keras. Radius satu kilometer dari dinding maut Gunung Salak itu sudah disisir habis. Beberapa hari belakangan, tim pencarian memang fokus mencari FDR itu. “Jadi operasi pencarian FDR ini dinyatakan ditutup,” kata Kepala Basarnas, Marsekal Madya Daryatmo, di Pasir Pogor, Kecamatan Cijeruk, Kabupaten Bogor, Senin 21 Mei 2012. Semua tim ditarik dari gunung itu.

Operasi berhenti tanpa FDR kemudian menimbulkan sak wasangka. Ada yang menduga bahwa alat itu sudah ditangan tim Rusia. Alat FDR itu merupakan bagian dari black box, yang diharapkan bisa mengungkap sebab musabab kecelakaan maut ini. Spekulasi berkembang bahwa Rusia, yang sedang membangun industri penerbangan sipil, sangat berkepentingan dengan alat itu.
Tapi sak wasangka itu sudah dibantah keras Basarnas. Tim Rusia memang terjun juga ke Gunung Salak. Tapi, "Mereka juga tidak menemukan FDR itu," kata Direktur Operasional Basarnas, Sunarbowo kepada VIVAnews, Senin  21 Mei 2012.

Tim Rusia tidak mungkin menyembunyikan alat itu. Sebab, kata Sunarbowo, tim yang datang dengan pesawat khusus itu bekerja di bawah pengawasan tim khusus Indonesia. "Kalau mau bergerak mereka minta bantuan kita," tutur Sunarbowo. Basarnas meminta publik agar tidak menaruh curiga dengan tim Rusia. "Itu dugaan yang berlebihan. Karena setiap apa yang mereka kerjakan, selalu kami kawal."

Operasi pencarian FDR ini dihentikan, kata Sunarbowo, karena tugas Basarnas telah selesai. Basarnas, tambahnya, hanya bertugas mengevakuasi para korban Sukhoi. Sementara, FDR menjadi kewenangan Komite Nasional Keselamatan Transportasi (KNKT).
Itu sebabnya, meski operasi dihentikan, Basarnas tetap mempersilakan KNKT mendaki Gunung Salak itu, untuk mencari FDR yang diperlukan untuk proses penyelidikan penyebab jatuhnya pesawat. "Mungkin nanti akan dibantu oleh polisi atau aparat setempat," kata Sunarbowo.

Meski tidak menemukan FDR itu, tim pencari sesungguhnya sudah bekerja keras. Semua jenazah sudah dievakuasi. Sudah pula diidentifikasi. Bahkan lebih cepat dari yang direncanakan. Kerja keras yang patut dipuji.

Selain evakuasi para korban itu, tim SAR menemukan serpihan-serpihan lain dari pesawat nahas bikinan Rusia itu. Mereka juga sudah menemukan Emergency Locater Transmitter (ELT), sejumlah dokumen, dan sebuah parasut yang masih terikat dengan kencang.
Komandan Resimen Militer (Danrem) Surya Kencana 061, Bogor, Kolonel Infantri AM Putranto memastikan bahwa parasut itu sama sekali tidak dipakai. "Masih terikat kencang. Jadi sama sekali belum digunakan,”katanya.

Sebelumnya, soal parasut itu memang menerbitkan banyak pertanyaan, yang bisa berujung pada sak wasangka pula. Ada yang menduga bahwa si pilot—yang lama menerbangkan pesawat tempur Sukhoi itu – sempat melompat sebelum pesawat menghantam dinding gunung.
Dugaan itu dibantah keras. Sebab itu pesawat sipil. Tak punya kursi pelontar. Lagi pula tak ada jendela di samping pilot. Bagaimana dan lewat mana dia melompat keluar dari pesawat.

Koto Tinggi kini merupakan kota kecamatan yang seperti kota mati, sepi. Ekonomi yang tadinya ditopang tambang (emas) kini tak bisa digali lagi.

Bocah 6 Tahun Calon Ahli Komputer Termuda di Dunia

Bangladesh - Kecintaan dan kemampuannya di depan komputer berpotensi mengantarkan bocah ini menjadi seorang ahli komputer termuda di dunia. Sebuah gelar yang membuat orang tercengang, sebab bocah yang dimaksud baru berusia 6 tahun.

Bagaimana tidak, Wasik Farhan-Roopkotha, nama sang anak, memiliki kemampuan yang tak kalah dengan orang-orang dewasa. Dilaporkan, ia sudah menguasai video game populer yang lumayan sulit seperti Modern Warfare dan Metal Gear Solid. Kemampuannya memang makin meningkat seiring bertambahnya usia.

Dilansir dari BBC, Selasa (1/4/2012), menginjak usia 3 tahun ia sudah mulai mengetik di Microsoft Word dan selang setahun, ia memahami pemrograman dan mendownload game emulator.

Orangtua Wasik sendiri sempat tak percaya dengan kemampuan sang buah hati, "Saya tahu dia sangat berbeda sejak kelahirannya. Saya sendiri tak percaya saat ia mulai menyentuh komputer ketika usianya baru 7 bulan," ujar ibu Wasik, Cynthia Farhan-Risha.

Dan apa kata Wasik? "Saya sangat menikmati bermain di komputer dan belajar keahlian baru. Ambisi saya adalah menjadi ahli komputer dan bekerja di perusahaan komputer besar di masa depan," demikian yang dilontarkan oleh bocah asal Bangladesh ini.

Menyadari potensi Wasik yang besar, pihak orang tua berharap mereka mendapat bantuan dari pemerintah agar Wasik lebih berkembang.

Selain keahlian yang telah disebutkan di atas, Wasik juga ternyata menguasai salah satu bahasa pemrograman yakni C++. Mengetik di keyboard tanpa melihat keyboard juga menjadi salah satu kelebihannya.

Meski talentanya diakui banyak pihak, termasuk mendapat sorotan dari berbagai media di Bangladesh, di sisi lain, Wasik tetaplah menjadi anak seusianya. Ia masih kerap bermain dengan anak-anak sebayanya.

Satu lagi harapan yang ada pada diri Farhan-Risha adalah bahwa Wasik suatu saat akan mendapat pengakuan dari Guinness World Records karena sejauh ini mereka tidak memiliki programmer komputer termuda di dunia.

Pihak Guinness sendiri menyambutnya dengan baik. "Kami tidak memonitor rekor tersebut di database, namun keluarga Wasik sangat dipersilakan membuat klaim di situs kami" tandas Guinness.

Bus Penumpang Yanti Grup Terbakar, 15 Penumpang Tinggal Tulang Belulang

PAYAKUMBUH, RiauOnline.com-Sebuah bus penumpang Yanti Group tujuan Bukitinggi, Selasa (1/5) sekitar pukul 05:00 wib subuh tadi terbakar Hulu Aia Kanagarian Aia Putiah Kecamatan Harau Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota. 15 dari 40 penumpang bus tersebut hangus terbakar bersama bus tersebut.

Menurut saksi Evi Hendri (44) kepada RiauOnline.com, 15 penumpang bus yang terbakar tersebut hanya tertinggal kerangka tulang belulang. Tidak satupun dari korban yang dapat dikenali karena tubuh mereka hangus terbakar. Sementara 25 prang penumpang lainnya dibawa ke rumah sakit terdekat.

Dikatakan juga, 15 penumpang yang terbakar menumpuk di bagian depan mobil. Kemungkinan para korban ini sedang berebut ke luar melalui pintu depan mobil. Karena pintu belakang kendaraan penumpang tersebut tidak bisa di buka.

"Bus tersebut melakukan perjalan dari Dumai menuju Bukittinggi. Dan saya tidak tahu penyebab terbakarny busa tersebut Namun informasi sementara akibat konsleting jaringan listrik bus yang akhirnya menyambar tanki BBM kendaraan," ujarnya.

Saat ini busa yang tebakar masih berada di lokasi kejadian. Namun pihak kepolisian Polres Lima Puluh Kota sudah turun ke tempat kejadian perkara.

Ruyati Tragedy: Saudi's Envoy Apologizes

“Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia apologized for and regretted the issue”

VIVAnews – Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulrahman Mohammed Amin Al-Khayyat apologized for the decapitation of an Indonesian maid, Ruyati binti Satubi, which took place last Saturday. The ambassador also regretted that the execution was without prior notice to the Indonesian Embassy.

Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Michael Tene, today said that the ambassador conveyed the apology to Foreign Ministry's Middle East Director, Ronny Yuliantoro, on Monday, June 20 2011.

Earlier Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa was scheduled to meet with Khayyat. However, at the same time Minister Natalegawa had to attend a hearing session with the members of Commission I at the House of Representatives in Jakarta.

“In the meeting [with the Saudi's ambassador] we conveyed the censure and protest over the process of Ruyati’s execution,” Tene told VIVAnews.

Tene said that Khayyat promised to deliver the protest to his government. During the meeting, Khayyat also conveyed his apology for the case of Ruyati.

“The Saudi Arabian ambassador apologized for and regretted the issue. He promised that such issues will not happen again in the future,” said Tene.

Ruyati was accused of killing her employer and sentenced to death last week. The Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh and Foreign Affairs Ministry acknowledged being ignorant for not receiving any information regarding the execution. It is a concern that Ruyati’s body, buried in Saudi Arabia, might not be sent to Indonesia.

Koprol.com to service with Yahoo

Yahoo has taken Koprol. com, an Indonesian mobile location-based-services Web company similar to Foursquare in the U. S. aiming to serve its users with added services.

This deal will shape Yahoo expertise in location-based mobile services that will eventually lead in helping people find nearby local businesses complete with reviews, on their mobile phones as well as locate their peers and friends and keep a tab on their activities.

The industry watchdogs claim that Yahoo seemingly aimed to acquire the New York City-based Foursquare valued at over US$100 million, failing to do so resulted in takeover of this Indonesian firm.

Also, Yahoo states that an overall increase in mobile devices across the world to access internet has resulted in to taking of such a beneficiary step, which soon will be seen in all net-enabled phones.

Google Could Pay $500M to DOJ to Settle Ad Investigation

Google has set aside $500 million for a possible settlement with the Department of Justice related to an advertising investigation, Google reported in a filing on Tuesday.

The filing, reported earlier by The New York Times, doesn't indicate that Google has in fact settled. Google also noted that it is currently being audited by the Internal Revenue Service and various other tax authorities.

The charge is being accounted for under general and administrative expenses as part of Google's 10Q filing. A Google spokesman declined to comment, saying it was a legal matter.

Google, meanwhile, was busy launching its Google I/O conference, which included the formal disclosure of its next Android releases, improved video services, and the so-called future of Android, or Android@Home. Google also launched its Google Music Beta, possibly including anti-piracy protections.

Under the heading, "Department of Justice Investigation (Advertising)," the filing notes: "In May 2011, in connection with a potential resolution of an investigation by the United States Department of Justice into the use of Google advertising by certain advertisers, we accrued $500 million for the three month period ended March 31, 2011. Although we cannot predict the ultimate outcome of this matter, we believe it will not have a material adverse effect on our business, consolidated financial position, results of operations, or cash flows."

It wasn't clear what was at issue with regards to the advertising investigation. The DOJ shares antitrust responsibilities with the Federal Trade Commission, which is reportedly prepping its own investigation of Google with regards to its search technology. The DOJ recently approved Google's acquisition of ITA Software, a travel software company, for $700 million.

Google also noted that it was in the process of being audited, but that the company didn't expect any material impact.

"We are under audit by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and various other tax authorities," Google said. "We have reserved for potential adjustments to our provision for income taxes that may result from examinations by, or any negotiated agreements with, these tax authorities, and we believe that the final outcome of these examinations or agreements will not have a material effect on our results of operations. If events occur which indicate payment of these amounts is unnecessary, the reversal of the liabilities would result in the recognition of tax benefits in the period we determine the liabilities are no longer necessary. If our estimates of the federal, state, and foreign income tax liabilities are less than the ultimate assessment, a further charge to expense would result."

Bloomberg and others have reported that Google uses a complicated legal structure to keep its tax rates low.

Learning how the brain does its coding

Most organisms with brains can store and process a staggering range of information. The fundamental unit of the brain, a single neuron, however, can only communicate in the simplest of manners, by sending a simple electrical pulse. The challenge of understanding how information is contained in the pattern of these pulses has been bothering neurobiologists for decades, and has been given its own name: neural coding. 

In principle, there are two ways coding could be handled. In dense coding, a single neuron would convey lots of information through a complex series of voltage spikes. To a degree, however, this creates as many problems as it solves, since the neuron on the receiving end will have to be able to interpret this complex series properly, and separate it from operating noise. 

The alternative, sparse coding, tends to be used for memory recall and sensory representations. Here, a single neuron only conveys a limited amount of information (i.e., there's something moving horizontally in the field of vision) through a simple pulse of activity. Detailed information is then constructed by aggregating the inputs of lots of these neurons. 

A study released in yesterday's Science provides some perspective on just how flexible this sort of system can be. Researchers worked with the olfactory system of insects, where structures in the brain called mushroom bodies integrate the inputs from sensory neurons. (they're called mushroom bodies for the highly technical reason that they're shaped kind of like a mushroom.) The mushroom bodies use sparse coding to interpret and recall odors, with most neurons only firing a few times in response to a scent. 

The authors of the paper traced the connections among the neurons in the mushroom body, and found that most were contacted by a single, giant interneuron that sent them inhibitory signals. By toning all the other neurons down, this giant cell enforces sparse coding by limiting the amount of activity that is elicited by a new odor. It also allows the fine tuning of activity for the entire mushroom body. Increasing its activity is sufficient to shut the entire system down, essentially making the insect blind to smells, while decreasing its activity will make the insect hypersensitive to scents. 

Although us mammals don't have neurons of this sort—they appear to be an innovation exclusive to the insects—the authors predict that a system that functions similarly may be found in vertebrates, simply because it's so simple and functional.

Al-Qaeda 'confirms Osama Bin Laden dead'

Al-Qaeda has confirmed the death of its leader Osama Bin Laden, according to a statement attributed to the group and posted on jihadist internet forums. The statement said his blood would not be "wasted" and that al-Qaeda would continue attacking the US and allies. Bin Laden's death would be a "curse" for the US and urged an uprising in Pakistan, the statement added. Bin Laden was shot dead on Monday when US commandos stormed his compound in the Pakistani town of Abbottabad.

Several rallies are being held across Pakistan on Friday in protest at Monday's raid. The statement said an audiotape would soon be released of the al-Qaeda leader speaking a week before his death. "[Osama Bin Laden's blood] will remain, with permission from Allah, the Almighty, a curse that chases the Americans and their agents, and goes after them inside and outside their countries," it warned. "Their happiness will turn into sorrow, and their blood will be mixed with their tears. We call upon our Muslim people in Pakistan, on whose land Sheikh Osama was killed, to rise up and revolt."

Correspondents say many Pakistanis are angry at what they see as a US infringement of their country's sovereignty. They are also critical of Pakistan's government for allowing the commando operation to happen, although officials deny they were told. Around 1,000 people gathered in central Abbottabad following Friday prayers, AFP news agency reported.

They set fire to tyres, blocked a main road and shouted "Down, down USA!" and "terrorist, terrorist, USA terrorist". Anti-American sentiment also appeared to be high at a similar protest in the south-western city of Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province.

How Much Do Celebs Make on 'Dancing With the Stars'?

'Dancing With the Stars' is one of the more profitable shows on TV, making hundreds of millions each season through ad revenue, but, how much of that bounty is going to the celebrity contestants?

"When you sign up, every contestant gets $150,000 for 6 weeks rehearsals and the first two shows," an insider with knowledge of the arrangement tells me. "Then every week you survive you make an extra $10,000 then $20,000 then $30,000 and so on, so the winner takes home $350,000."
Which sounds like a huge amount of money, but not to one past contestant, who complained to me this week about 12-hour work days and "ridiculous" amounts of "stress and strain" on the body.

"The show doesn't pay for massages or anything else," the former contestant, who is not part of the current cast, alleges. "The amount of physical stress and strain they put your body through, rehearsing six days a week, eight hours a day, is ridiculous."

My source said "I have never worked so hard in my life" and described one particularly busy performance day: "Our call time was 6:00 AM and we were rehearsing with the band by 8 and then live on the dance floor that evening. That's a 12-hour day."

And although I agree it doesn't feel right that the cast of 'The Jersey Shore' earn far more than Kirstie Alley and crew, I say welcome to the real world, where we pay for own massages too!

Tujuannya, untuk mengidentifikasi 60 perusahaan terkemuka di AS dan menilainya dalam daftar peringkat berdasarkan 20 atribut berbeda, termasuk performa keuangan, penampilan emosional, tanggung jawab sosial dan kepemimpinan. Dalam laporan tersebut tampak bahwa perusahaan teknologi mendominasi daftar teratas. Lambang 'UFO' di Sleman Pertamakali di Indonesia

Lambang misterius yang diduga warga berasal dari pendaratan pesawat Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) di Sleman, Yogyakarta, ternyata baru pertamakali muncul di Indonesia. Dalam sejarah, lingkaran aneh yang dikenal sebagai crop circle ini lebih sering muncul di eropa.

Situs ensiklopedia bebas terbesar, Wikipedia, Senin (24/1/2011), menulis bahwa 90 persen lingkaran aneh tersebut lebih sering terjadi di kawasan Inggris bagian selatan. Kemunculan crop circle ini semakin meningkat setelah tahun 1970-an.

Setidaknya sebanyak 26 negara pernah melaporkan adanya crop circle. Negara-negara tersebut seperti Amerika Serikat, Jepang, Inggris, namun tak ada laporan serupa dari Indonesia.

Wikipedia juga menulis aneka macam praduga terkait pembentukan lingkaran aneh ini. Dari mulai dibuat dengan menidurkan tanaman dengan ikatan tali sampai dengan pemotong rumput.

Beberapa crop circle, menurut Wikipedia, juga dibuat dengan sengaja oleh perusahaan sebagai iklan produk mereka. Ada juga orang-orang yang membuat crop circle untuk sekedar berunjukrasa.

Sebelumnya diberitakan, warga Sleman, Yogyakarta, dihebohkan oleh tanda misterius di persawahan yang muncul usai angin kencang. Warga setempat meyakini tanda yang berbentuk lingkaran raksasa tersebut sebagai pendaratan  pesawat 'UFO' dari planet lain.

Lambang tersebut berbentuk lingkaran berdiameter 70 meter. Di tengah lingkaran raksasa tersebut terdapat lambang misterius. Tanda tersebut dibentuk oleh hamparan padi yang rebah setelah angin kencang tersebut.

Honda Jazz Wagon Belum Tentu Masuk RI

Karawang - Produsen mobil Honda belum lama ini dikabarkan sedang menyiapkan varian terbaru dari Honda Jazz/Fit. Bukan dalam bentuk hatchback seperti yang ada sekarang atau minivan seperti Freed, tapi sebuah mobil baru bermodel wagon. Tapi sepertinya varian ini masih lama datang ke Indonesia.

Sebab menurut Direktur Pemasaran dan Layanan Purna Jual PT Honda Prospect Motor, Jonfis Fandy kelahiran mobil ini masih belum-lah jelas.

"Gambar yang beredar kan tidak diketahui dari mana asalnya. Kita sendiri belum tahu kapan mobil ini akan diproduksi di Jepang," ujarnya di pabrik perakitan Honda di Karawang, Rabu (19/1/2011).

Sebelumnya sebuah brosur sebuah mobil baru yang mengambil platform Jazz/Fit banyak beredar di internet. Mobil ini akan dinamai Fit Shuttle dan akan segera dijual di Jepang pada bulan Maret mendatang.

Honda Fit Shuttle ini didasarkan pada tampang baru Honda Jazz/Fit namun dengan atap lebih tinggi dan tubuh lebih panjang serta bagian belakang yang didesain ulang.

Sementara wajah depan Fit/Jazz ini terlihat identik dengan Fit/Jazz yang beredar sekarang di berbagai belahan dunia. Nama Jazz sendiri digunakan Honda di pasar Eropa, Australia, Indonesia dan beberapa negara lain.

Kemungkinan Fit Shuttle akan dipersembahkan dalam dua versi. Satu versi hybrid yang didukung teknologi IMA dan disokong mesin i-VTEC 1.3 liter yang sama dengan yang digunakan versi hatchback (Fit/Jazz) dan minivan (Freed).

TOP MOVIES: 10 BEST MOVIES 2010

1. Inception Christopher Nolan) - This movie for me is another masterpiece from Nolan that has the capacity to blow people away. All cast gave a very strong performances. The cinematography is world class and where effects are used, they are absolutely superb. This film will keep you thinking even after leaving the movie theater. The overall plot may seem confusing and complex, but it adds to its uniqueness. One of those film that you have to watch twice or even a dozen times to get that wonderful experience!

2. The Social Network (David Fincher) - This is what you called a genius script! The script from Aaron Sorkin is very rich and witty. The dialog here is too deep and the tempo of the dialog is too fast, it is not very easy to understand but it was overwhelming and amazing. Jesse Eisenberg goes beyond the level of what is usually expected of him. He stole the show! No questions about the director, David Fincher is clearly one of the best director these days. If this movie were a Facebook page, I would click “LIKE”.

3. Kick-Ass (Matthew Vaughn) ­- Ohh..I loveee every single moment of the film and found most of the humor very funny. This movie is super fun and exciting just like riding a roller-coaster! It is violent, funny, and shocking at the same time but above all it is utterly entertaining! Everything was good; the story, the acting, and the music was just outstanding. From start to finish, it is loaded with enough action and humor. Some scenes may be controversial, but Kick-Ass breaks the mound in superhero movies.

4. Toy Story 3 (Lee Unkrich) - Such good and fascinating animation and story, making this the best animated film of the year. With a great ending that made me tear a little but it is touching and it makes you think. Toy Story is definitely my favourite animation and to me this was the best of the trilogy. Pixar has done it again! This was a fantastic finish to a wonderful story. Thank you Pixar, simply thank you.

5. Black Swan (Darren Aronofsky) - Black Swan offers plenty of drama, plenty of thrilling moments, and plenty of sexiness. The story is more complicated than you think. Aronofsky brought an element of fear that not often explored in modern films; psychological fear. It keeps you guessing until the very end. Natalie Portman finally gets the recognition she deserves, her star has finally reached the top! After watching this movie I realized that: ‘Life is full of pressure’ and ‘Nobody is perfect’ . Yes, it is.

6. The Kids Are All Right (Lisa Cholodenko) - Even though the story is relatively simple, the emotions and the evolutions from the characters impulse it on a realistic way without manipulating our feelings. Bening and Moore both are really great. Their performances are daring and subtle convincingly persuasive in every gesture and expression. The script is also excellently well-crafted. It is not an extraordinary film, but it is a spectacular and visually stunning romantic comedy.

7. Mother and Child (Rodrigo Garcia) - This is a well written and directed film. It is an amazing character study and makes you think about life, love, and relationships. Sad at the beginning, but manages to end on a happy note that feels genuine. Astonishing great performances from all cast, especially Annette Bening. Powerful and emotional drama.

8. Buried (Rodrigo Cortes) - One of the most terrifying, disturbing, and nightmarish thrillers this year. All done with no flashy special effects and editing, no overblown action sequences and music, no pretty faces and bodies in sight. Just a man, a box, and a plenty of thrills. This film is not for everybody, especially a claustrophobia. For me, Buried is original with a genius script from Chris Sparling and so far the best performance from Ryan Reynolds, should I say more?

9. The Ghost Writer (Roman Polanski) - It is a suspense thriller with heavy political references. It grasps my attention from the very first scene and never let me go until the end credits are over. The plot is fairly slow and also the suspense build very slowly but very surely and not boring by any means. Far better than most of the political thrillers of recent times. Ewan McGregor is very convincing and really carries the movie, his performance has never been better.

10. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (Edgar Wright) - I didn’t really like the film when I first watched it. But then, after I read the comics, DANG! Edgar Wright really takes comic-book adaptation to a whole another level! The visual effects and soundtracks were superb! Absolutely a unique experience, everything in this movie happens so fast and one blink is enough to lose information. Nerdiest movie eveeer!
